Video: Crazy Drummers

Remember back in high school when you had those friends who just went overboard with finger or pencil drumming, almost to the point of obsession? Ever wondered what happened to them?

Stiff Upper Lips

Ok I've been getting some slack from people for very irregularly updating this blog. I have a life, people!

Last night Jeson and I went to hang out in Fremont just to do something different on a Thursday. We started the night at Red Door but the place was a bit quiet, so we hit the road again, eventually ending up at Nectar.

Turns out there was a show there that night with the Stiff Upper Lips, a Ska group. Have to say, they rocked, and the crowd was super into it. Main guy said they were going away for a while to do some studio work and (I'm guessing?) make an album.

It was some awesome instrumental work, but having Jamaican vocals is what really adds the spice. Mostly though, it was a super cool crowd. But what is it with Ska fans and winter hats? I couldn't figure out whether it's because of the cold outside, but the "Jamaican music / winter hat" combo just didn't make sense to me. Ah well, as long as you're having fun in your winter hat, you can wear any hat you want!

Here's more info about the event.

Thievery Corporation Rocked!

Last night I saw Thievery Corporation at the Moore Theatre. Amazing show!

As always with live electronic music though, you always wonder what those guys are doing on the turntables and knobs. I mean, this music wasn't produced live in the first place, so at most they might be mixing in some extra samples or just adjusting levels. My guess is they're just twidding knobs that aren't actually connected to anything, and it's all for show. Either way, none of that detracted from the performance. The sound was great, the music was high-energy, and the crowd was loving it!

Would have been nice to see these guys in an actual club rather than sitting in a reserved seat. The music just asks you to stand up and move, but after doing so the event staff would just ask you to sit down and chill out.

Loved .38 .45 especially- and putting a face/picture to the rasta voices I know and love!

Gnarls Barkley on MTV

There's a YouTube video of Gnarls Barkley live on MTV.

Don't you just love these guys dressing up as Star Wars characters? Geeky, but it gets your attention don't it? And Dangermouse seems have toned down his costumes since the old days.
